T'is the season for pulling things from the Christmas Tree....usually at 4am.

I am sick.  Kind of.  I have a sort throat and I'm achey.  I am currently being sustained into existence by medications.   The good news is that it's enabled me to get out of working this weekend...yay!

I bought Candy Cane fragrance oil from the on-line shop they I've bragged about before - Big Tree Supplies.  Their oils are different from the usual rose and lavender standard types.  The Candy Cane one smells so much like Candy Canes that everyone in the house thought I was baking them!  As if!!??!!

My nephew's movie is going to be on TV in the new year.  A community station, Channel 31.  This is good because I will be able to copy the bit that my mum is in - which is kind of funny - and share it all with you.  But it's also good for my nephew too!

Have a nice weekend everyone xox

Emma woke me this morning with the wonderful news that she passed VCE (year 12 Victorian Certificate of Education). An historic day in her life as it paves the way for her future. Having a spelling Nazi mother may have paid off because the highlight of her results was an A in English! Now comes the difficult task of choosing what next??? She honestly doesn't have a clue what she'd like to do - other than visit the places some of my friends reading this live!
Exciting times!

Stuff for today [Dec. 12th, 2009|10:03 am]

I woke up with a migraine. Also, I've still got pain in my right side from an ultrasound I had Wednesday. Ultrasounds shouldn't hurt but it appears my liver is way too tender; not the greatest sign but I'm not going there right now since I don't have time. Forecast is for rain but although this interferes with my plans to wear my red suede boots (whimper) I like the winter weather and I am still going to drive through it to go to the patient education conference. Was pleased to be invited to a Christmas show after (thank you Marina! :) ) but my passenger says he must get back home to get some things done. And I probably need more rest. It hurts to breathe, again, and the Cough From Hell is NOT going to get a chance to come back. Unless it pays me rent. I need the money.

There will be lots of room at the conference. You know how folks around here are about going out in the Dreaded Rain. So don't worry if you didn't RSVP and would like to go. Hey, free food! :)

And if you go out in the rain you might actually see the creeks with WATER in them!

PS Tech stuff:
when this blog gets imported into Facebook (which only lets me import ONE blog) I am wondering if the links and the photos show up...or not.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas... [Dec. 12th, 2009|02:38 am]

woke up sort of humming that. And crying.

Weird!

Ok, back to sleep. Definitely time for one of those How To Hug Yourself And Comfort Yourself And Stroke Your Own Hair To Lull Yourself To Sleep bizarre care-for-yourself-cos-who-the-hell-else-will-for-you things I recently learned.

Seems like we've come nowhere since that book I remember seeing everywhere decades ago, "How To Be Your Own Best Friend." I'm looking for "How To Not Alienate Everyone With Whom You Come Into Contact" but it's never there.

I am having a really sudden and severe financial crash otherwise I would get myself something for Christmas and wrap it, too! (yes I know Peace On Earth is the most important but it is hard to wrap :P)

Just for this I'm blasting Christmas carols in the car tomorrow. Just you wait, Santa Barbara, just you wait.

Just show up today! [Dec. 12th, 2009|01:32 am]

It's rainy/cool; attendance will be low, and there will be plenty of room. If you are interested in any of the rheumatic/autoimmune diseases and you are in the Santa Barbara area sometime between 1 and 4 pm, just show up! It's FREE.

I'll be there, anyway. I used to live where it rained a lot and I actually own umbrellas. Also, I don't dissolve in water.

Yet.

...everyone who came to our Christmas party!

I love to do the Christmas party. We don't have a big place or things well-organized. There is a lot of clutter and Architectural Digest isn't going to be taking any photos. But I always loved the Fezziwigs from A Christmas Carol, who just let their guests take over their building one night and have a casual, fun Christmas party! Of course I can only aspire to their level. I can't imagine anyone having room for dancing here ;)

We had ONE local person. Everyone else came in from points south and north. The one who came the farthest is staying over in the guest bed but the LA ones are actually probably still on the way home.

Thank you for being willing to come to us on a before-work day.

You see now, if you did not know before, why I like Iron Chef [info]dburr to have a day beforehand to start his cooking! I still don't know how a legally bilnd guy who somehow taught himself his way around a kitchen was able to cook two turkeys, one injected with cajun sauce, make an apple cider from spices he had at home (using a cheesecloth, and apple juice...because on a whim he said he would make his own because I wasn't able to get to Trader Joe's in time...and I think dburr's was a LOT better than TJ's)...mashed potatoes...stuffing with some kind of special sausage (I don't eat much sausage and could only shoot my carbs up to the sky just so much, diabetes and the holidays not going together well, so I did not have the stuffing but it got rave reviews)...all things he had never done before. He just somehow DOES it.

And me, I tremble if someone wants me to put butter on their toast. LOL!

Anyway, I do the organization and nagging and policing and making sure children don't get unhappy and cleanup detail and being Aunt Beep, so I'm not sure why anyone puts up with me, but thank you all for doing so. No ants or rats or other vermin will be tempted by anything; food is all put away and kitchen is Clean Enough after some of my scrubbing and 3 dishwasher loads. We all have clean cleared-off beds and will be able to sleep!

I had some help with the cleanup, you all know who you are, and since I'm in kind of a nasty lupus flare with five separate things wrong with me right now I treasure each and every single thing you all did that I didn't have to do.

Special thanks to Mystery Man J.D. for the laser show and for fixing our overhead light, which turned out to be loads more complicated than me just asking a tall person to replace the light bulbs...and Mystery Man C.P. for driving some extra folks so a little boy who wanted to come would not be broken-hearted...and for Mr. K.B. for helping me with all of the not-fun jobs...and Ms. M.K. for bringing my favorite potato casserole :)

Dburr managed to get Christmas music all through the place using some technology I don't know about ;) I loved it. Maybe I can hear it again tomorrow :) We dragged out all of our Christmas CDs. I didn't know there were so many and some of them were bought on sale last year and had not yet even been listened to :)

Turkey broth is on the stove for soup in my future!

I love my friends :)

Merry Christmas! and safe travels, and sweet dreams.
